Student Lockers

Carry too much weight when you move between lectures? Need a personal space to temporarily store your textbooks, notes and stationery? Apply for a student locker of your own!

The University provides lockers to all registered full-time or part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as exchange-in students on campus (Locker Location), and each student are eligible to apply for ONE student locker with a size of 300mm(w) x 612mm(h) x 450mm(d).

  • On-line application for UG & PG students will start from 1 August in each academic year.
  • Applicant must be a registered student at the time of application.
    • New students need to complete their student registration before applying for a student locker.

Students are strongly advised to read the following details before applying. 

Application Procedure
Step 1. Choosing Your Locker

Lockers are randomly allocated starting from Zone 1C or 2L. To choose your locker: 

  1. Check the Locker Location Plan and keep a record of the locker numbers that suit your need.
  2. Enter the on-line application system to check the locker number being assigned.
  3. If it suits your choice, proceed with on-line application. Otherwise, you may cancel and apply again.
Step 2. Submitting Application

Applications are accepted online from 1 August in each academic year. Students are strongly advised to read the FAQs, Rules and Regulations for details before applying.

  1. All Eligible Students.
  2. Applications are accepted online: via the “Current Students” in HKUST website, under "myPortal".
  3. Payment should be made on-line by using Visa/Master Cards, Alipay, WeChat Pay or Faster Payment System (FPS).  Locker fee paid is non-refundable.
  4. Print out the Locker Confirmation after checking your name on the confirmation.
  5. Close all browsers and leave the Student Intranet after completing your application. 
Step 3. Activation

To activate your locker, please bring along a high quality steel padlock of approved standard with closed shackle; or a padlock with a short stem and a base of 35-40 mm wide and a recommended brand: ASSA, ABLOY, TRI- CIRCLE, YALE, BELLHORN and the printed confirmation to LG3 Student Support & Activities Counter .

The locker will be ready for use after 3 working days upon submitting of the padlock to LG3 Student Support & Activities Counter.

Please note that only high quality steel-padlocks with closed shackle are approved for use on the student lockers. Other padlocks will not be accepted.

Note:
  1. The locker rental will be terminated if the locker user is no longer a registered student of the University, or if any misuse of the locker is found.
  2. You must CLEAR your locker on or before the expiry date. After this date, a charge of $80 would be levied. Dean of Students' Office will have full discretion to dispose all items left in the lockers, or take any items for recycle sale and use the sale proceeds on equipment for student activities.
FAQ for New Users of Student Lockers

All registered full-time or part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as exchange-in students are eligible to apply for ONE student locker.

Most lockers are located close to classrooms and lecture theater in the Academic Building.  The locker size is 300 mm (w) x 612 mm (h) x 450 mm (d).

  • The charge is HK$50 for UG students and HK$150 for PG students in each academic year for using the student lockers from 1 Sept or thereafter till 30 June of the following year.
  • The charge is HK$30 for all students for using the student lockers in Summer Term from 15 June or thereafter till 31 August.
  • TPG students admitted in Spring Term may apply for locker on term basis. The charge is $75 per term. [Spring Term (1 February to 30 June) or Fall Term (1 August to 31 December)].
  • For Exchange-in students, the charge is HK$50 for the exchange period at the university. 

Charges paid are not refundable.

  • The system will only accept electronic payment online by Visa/Master Cards, Alipay, WeChat Pay or Faster Payment System (FPS).
  • You should make sure there is sufficient fund on your HKUST Card for payment.  You can add value to your HKUST Card at various loaction on campus.   
  • When you are making online payment, it might take up to 15 minutes for the system to complete the payment process.  DO NOT interrupt the system by pressing any key on the keyboard when payment transaction is in process.
  • If the payment transaction fails for any reason, the locker so assigned will not be allocated to you.  You will need to make a fresh application after 30 minutes.

After the payment transaction is successfully completed, the system will prompt a message informing you the details of the transaction and the locker details.  Please print out the confirmation for locker activation.

  • Bring your own high-quality steel padlock of approved standard with closed shackle; or a padlock with a short stem and a base of 35-40 mm wide and a recommended brand: ASSA, ABLOY, TRI- CIRCLE, YALE, BELLHORN to LG3 Student Support & Activities (SSA) Counter as soon as possible after allocation is confirmed.  Number padlock or key retaining padlock or other unsafe padlocks would not be accepted.  For a sample of the approved padlock, please visit LG3 SSA Counter or click here.    
  • The locker will be ready for use after 3 working days upon submitting of the padlock to LG3 SSA Counter.

Contact the LG3 Student Support & Activities Counter immediately. In case you need assistance to cut a padlock, an administration fee of $80 will be charged for the service contractor to open the locker.

  • Prior to the expiry date of the lockers in use, students will be notified and reminded by e-mail to clear up the lockers and remove the padlocks on or before the expiry date.
  • After this date, a charge of $80 would be levied.  Dean of Students' Office will have full discretion to dispose all items left in the lockers, or take any items for recycle sale and use the sale proceeds on equipment for student activities.
  1. Contact the LG3 Student Support & Activities Counter to fix the time and date with the service contractor to open the locker.
  2. Proof of identity is required before the arrangement can be made.
  3. You should accompany the service contractor at the time of opening the locker.
  4. A service charge of HK$80 is payable direct to the service contractor by the student.  If it is found that you are not the eligible user of the locker, an administration charge of $130 will also be levied. 

Service hours of the service contractor: Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 4 pm.

  • Lockers are for convenience of the students but not meant for storage of valuable items such as computers, cameras and mobile phones etc. and/or dangerous goods.
  • Visit your lockers on a regular basis to ensure your locker and stored items are in good and safe custody.
  • Always take care of your own belongings, and do not leave them unattended.  Please protect your own belongings to avoid any loss!
  • If you spot any suspicious person or activity, please report to the Security Center immediately (Tel: 2358 8999).

Rules and Regulations Governing the Use of Student Lockers
  1. Lockers are allocated to students for storing books, notes, stationery and related academic materials for the convenience of their study.  Storage of any items that would cause or likely to cause safety risk, physical danger or nuisance to the environment or other members of the University are prohibited, e.g. explosives, pets, etc.  It is also not advisable to store valuable items such as computers, cameras and mobile phones etc. inside the lockers.  The University will not be responsible for the loss or damage of any items stored inside the lockers.  Students must take full responsibility for the items stored in their lockers.
  2. Each student including full-time/part-time UG, PG and exchange-in student is eligible to apply for one locker per rental type. The locker rental will be terminated if the locker user is no longer a registered student of the University.
  3. Students who have been successfully allocated a locker should bring a padlock of the approved type to the Student Support & Activities (SSA) Counter, then locate and take possession of the locker as soon as possible. If the allocated locker is found to be occupied by someone else, student should report immediately to the SSA Counter at LG3 via Lift 6 of Indoor Sports Complex. In case you need assistance to cut a padlock, an administration fee of $80 will be charged for the service contractor to open the locker.
  4. Students will have to provide their own padlocks of approved standard.  Only high quality steel-padlocks with closed shackle; or a padlock with a short stem and a base of 35-40 mm wide and a recommended brand: ASSA, ABLOY, TRI- CIRCLE, YALE, BELLHORN are approved for use on the student lockers.  Number padlock, key retaining padlock and other unsafe padlocks will not be accepted. The locker will be ready for use after 3 working days upon submitting of the padlock to LG3 SSA Counter.
  5. Lockers cannot be transferred or changed. In case of any problem, please contact SSA Counter.
  6. Unauthorized use of locker is not permitted. Application must be made online in advance and approved before use of any locker.  A locker found to be illegally occupied by a student will be opened by DSTO. An administration fee of $130 will be levied against the student.
  7. The lockers are the property of the University.  Students are not allowed to make any alteration to the lockers.
  8. Locker users should not put any labels and posters on the locker, and should keep the interior and exterior of the locker clean.  Students must report any damage or defects of their lockers to SSA Counter as soon as possible.  DSTO reserves the right to charge the students any expenses incurred for repair of the lockers under their use.
  9. Students who withdraw from their study must clear the lockers and inform SSA Counter as soon as possible.  DSTO will remove all unattended belongings for disposal.  DSTO will not be responsible for any loss of or damage to property removed and disposed of.
  10. When the use of lockers is due to expire, students will be notified by an email from DSTO.  Students must evacuate their belongings from the lockers and remove the padlocks on or before the expiry date as specified in the notification.  After this date, a charge of $80 would be levied and all unattended belongings would be removed and disposed at the discretion of DSTO.  The University will not be responsible for any loss of or damage to items so found and/or disposed of.
  11. If a locker is found open, DSTO will lock it up with an DSTO padlock.  The locker user should contact SSA Counter at LG3.
  12. DSTO reserves the right to, without notifying the user in advance, open any locker in case of emergency or any violation of the above regulations.  In normal circumstances, DSTO staff will open a locker in the presence of an authorized officer of the University.
  13. Any violation of these regulations by the students may result in termination of use of the locker facility.
