WORKSHOP DETAILS
Lesson 1 (Feb 26, 2026)
Portrait Drawing of Family Members
Participants will work in pairs, drawing each other by focusing solely on the face and allowing the pen to move freely without correction. This warm-up exercise emphasizes observation as the foundation of drawing.
The instructor will then provide a live demonstration and guide participants in practicing portrait drawing using family or group photos from their phones, offering individual feedback.
Lesson 2 (Mar 5, 2026)
Live Drawing around Shaw Auditorium
Participants will sketch on-site at the Shaw Auditorium, observing HKUST students/communities engaged in everyday activities such as reading or working.
After the instructor’s demonstration, participants will explore the space, select models to draw within set time limits, and focus on capturing both the figure and the surrounding environment.
Lesson 3 (Mar 12, 2026)
Landscape Sketching and Coloring
Participants will sketch campus architecture at one to two locations. Emphasis will be placed on structure, geometry, and composition, using only markers (no pencils or erasers) to train accurate line work and keen observation.
Instructor will introduce watercolor basics, including color systems and blending methods. Participants will apply these techniques by adding color to their work.
Lesson 4 (Mar 19, 2026)
Drawing Sharing
Following the spirit of Moving Drawing’s public sharing, participants will share and deliver their artworks to HKUST students and staff. Instructor will begin with a short demonstration, after which the group will create and share their drawings around the campus, spreading the joy of drawing.

Introduction to Charlotte Lui (Moving Drawing):
Charlotte Lui is a local artist who graduated in 2019 from the Department of Visual Art at Hong Kong Baptist University, specializing in drawing and printmaking. In 2021, she launched "Moving Drawing", a platform where she transforms her observations of Hong Kong into drawings. Always equipped with a small sketchbook, she captures the city's vibrant hustle and bustle using simple lines and brushstrokes. Through her artwork, she inspires viewers to embrace each day as ‘the best day,’ embodying the spirit of carpe diem. Her goal is to document the daily and seasonal changes in Hong Kong, enabling viewers to carry the city’s memories beyond its borders.
As a local illustrator, Lui has collaborated with various brands since 2021, including MTR, Hong Kong Disneyland, Montblanc, RTHK among others. Through “Moving Drawing” she seeks to explore diverse locations in Hong Kong and around the world, observing and interpreting her surroundings from a unique perspective.
